Your Citizens Advice needs your help!
Citizens Advice Cheshire East will soon be on the move. As part of the redevelopment of Crewe town centre, the local Citizens Advice service’s current office next to the town’s bus station will be demolished and the charity need to find a new home.
Liz Shaw, Chief Officer says ‘This is a very exciting time for us but there is an awful lot of work to do over the next 6 months or so. Our current office has served us well since 1974, it’s in a great location and it has become a local landmark. However, it was meant as a temporary building and has become unfit for purpose. We have been looking for new premises for some time but now the redevelopment has forced the issue and the bulldozers will be moving in next summer.
‘We need to find a new, permanent home in or as close to the town centre as possible that will provide easy access for all our clients. We have identified a number of commercial properties that may be suitable but all will need work doing to become an up-to-date information and advice centre. We help around 3,000 residents from Crewe and surrounding areas every year so we need to provide a centre that meets everyone’s needs.
‘This project is going to be costly and although we have some funds in reserves and have identified some funding sources, we will still need help from the Crewe community to make this happen. Of course money donations would help but so would offers of help from anyone with skills such as architects to draft plans and help to cost work, a solicitor to ensure we get the best terms possible from a lease agreement; builders, electricians, maybe even a project manager with time on their hands!
‘In 2019 we will celebrate our 80th year of providing free and independent information and advice services to the people of Crewe and in that time we have helped hundreds of thousands of people to resolve their problems and to move on in life. Now we need their help to move on in Crewe’.
